Chassis: 0.10 (2.6mm) thick anodized aluminum. Drive: Four wheel floating aluminum shaft drive. Fuel Tank: With tank insert to make IFMAR capacity legal. Clutch: Two-shoe. Transmission: Two speed "Sure Shift" with a low 6.43:1 first gear for more low-end punch out of corners, and a higher 4.44:1 second gear for high top speeds. Bearings: Full set, 20 total. Shocks: Four coil-over oil-filled aluminum bodied VCS macro. Spur Gears: 48 tooth and 54 tooth. Suspension: Pivot ball type with redesigned rear hub carrier rear suspension now accepts blade style anti-roll bar as used on the front suspension, wire type roll bar also included. Associated Factory Team B44 project came to life in 2003 as a cooperative effort between Team Associated and J Concepts’ Jason Ruona and Brad Reelfs. After Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri won the 2005 IFMAR World Championships in Collegno, Italy with the BJ4 Worlds Edition, Area 51 shifted into overdrive to produce a true 'Associated' inspired 4WD buggy that would continue to dominate the 4WD off road racing class. The B44 is the result of this two-year development effort.

The 12R5 Factory Team is the latest evolutionary step in Associated’s over twenty-five years of 1:12 scale racing history. The designers in Area 51 built the 12R5 on a 2.5mm woven carbon fiber chassis that utilizes a pivot-ball link rear suspension that allows for independent adjustments for chassis roll, bump and alignment.
