Description Technical Specs

A new look for a super system. The FX-40 boasts all of the impressive features of Futaba’s awesome 14MZ radio, with these differences:

The transmitter features a slightly different design for pilots who prefer a “tray” type system.

The FX-40 allows modelers to re-locate the eight switches to different positions for comfort and convenience.

The World's smallest 14-channel synthesized receiver, with state-of-the-art Ball Grid Array (BGA) PC board technology.

The FX-40 system will control Airplanes, Helicopters and Gliders (Sailplanes).

Double the resolution of PCM 1024, the FX-40's breakthrough PCM G3 2048 enables servos to pick up even the slightest stick movements. It's enhanced by a frame rate that's 40% faster than Futaba's 9Z — much more data transmits in a much shorter time. The result? Real-Time Response...response so good, it feels like it's happening in real time!
Note: The FX-40 can also transmit in 1024 PCM and FM/PPM.

Only one company in the world could make the FX-40 display...it's an engineering triumph in itself. The HVGA screen features crystal-clear 640x240 pixel resolution. It uses transflective technology (layered transparent and reflecting surfaces) plus adjustable backlighting and contrast for easy visibility, even in direct sunlight. Navigate through menus and make selections by touching the screen — or use the Dial-N-Key button to scroll and select. The large (151 x 57 mm), backlit, full-color, touch-screen monitor (Half VGA: 640 x 240 pixels) is integrated seamlessly into the distinguished case, and constitutes the essential hub of the system.

Another worlds first is the WFSS process (Wireless Frequency Setting System), which is a method of setting the receiver frequency from the transmitter. If you wish to change the frequency for a particular model, you simply select the appropriate channel using the transmitters on-screen DDS Synthesizer system. The selected frequency is then transmitted by the radio to the receiver, where it is stored. At the same time the receivers unique serial number ensures that only this one receiver switches its frequency.

Thanks to state-of-the-art Ball Grid Array (BGA) layered PC board technology, the FX-40's R5014DPS 14-channel synthesized receiver is the world's smallest. You'll appreciate how easy its WFSS (Wireless Frequency Setting System) makes changing frequencies at busy airfields...you can do it right from the transmitter, without changing crystals!

Ball Grid Array (BGA) layered PC board technology allows for a very small size WFSS (Wireless Frequency Setting System) allows frequency changes to be made from the transmitter. Synthesized receiver allows switching to any channel in 72MHz band. Two digital buttons. PCM G3 2048 resolution, dual conversion. One year limited warranty

Using a Compact Flash memory card, modelers can upload BMP picture images of their models that will appear on the LCD screen.

Picture Files:
A photo of the model can be stored in each model memory along with the other data. This can be useful to ensure that you have selected the correct model memory. Dimensions of the pics: 168 x 80 pixels, file format BMP.

Sound files:
Around 132 kB of memory is required for each model memory with 8 flight modes, and this means that even a 32 MB CF card can store data for around 240 models. The D/P card also stores speech files (wav), music files (wma) and image files (bmp). A picture of the associated model can be assigned to each model memory. Up to 22 speech files (wav) can be assigned to individual switched functions for each model memory, for audible confirmation of flight mode switching, stating the model memory name, or announcing the next maneuver in a schedule.

Modulation Select, AFM (PPM) 8-ch / 12-ch for other makes of receivers with normal and reverse pulse directions.
PCM 1024
PCM G3 (2048).

The 7.4V 5000mAh Lithium-Ion battery that's included is state-of-the-art battery engineering, providing nearly 5 hours of flight time in a very compact size.

The ultimate in stick precision. Each axis is supported by dual ball bearings. Stick tension and detent is adjustable, so airplane and heli modelers can personalize to their preference. The transmitter is fitted with new precision-made dual-axis stick units featuring four ball bearings and special long-life potentiometers. At the development stage one of the crucial points of emphasis was an accurate feeling of control when the sticks pass through the center position. Both stick units are fitted with an adjustable ratchet and brake. It is very simple to convert the universal-mode stick units to throttle-left or throttle-right: the spring force adjustor for the throttle function is simply replaced by a bracket, which disables the self- neutralizing spring.

Every element on the transmitter can be used as a transmitter control. The sequence of the transmitter controls is freely selectable, as also their effect on the various flight modes. They can be set up to apply to all flight modes - or separately for each flight mode. In total 29 transmitter controls are available to the user:
Two dual-axis primary sticks
Six rotary trimmers
Three linear sliders
Two digital buttons
Eight switches
New digital rotary knob with push button
Two retractable analogue rotary knobs
The switch arrangement can be varied to suit individual requirements: both the position and the switch type can be changed, and the settings can be altered in the software configuration.
