My dad and I like this car
I bought this for my father. He picked it out. I don't like how the front wheels have too much play but we plan on building this all custom. It is very fast for a brushed system fun to drive. I recommend getting something to protect the motor or wheelie bar

Questions and answers about Traxxas Rustler XL-5 with ID Technology TRA37054-1
What do the consider the rustler to be? The slash is a short course I believe and in another question you said that the two are very similar, so would that mean the rustler is just an open wheeled short course truck?
The Rustler is considered to be a Stadium style truck, they are similar because they use a lot of the same parts on both models. The differential and gear box are exactly the same along with shocks, steering parts, hub carriers, etc. Rustler has larger tires and is a bit wider so it will handle a bit better, the short course has a larger body that seems to be able to take a beating and protects it a bit more. Both are fun so you can't go wrong with either.
What brushed motor upgrade would you recommend?
Honestly the stock 12t is about the best you can get until you convert to a brushless motor and ESC.
Can you us lipo battery with the regular wrestler and if so which battery would you recommend for fastest speed.
Yes, you can use a lipo pack in the Rustler XL-5 but you are limited to 2s packs only. We would recommend the Traxxas 5800mAh 7.4-volt 2-cell 25C LiPo with iD Auto Battery Identification part # TRA2843X.
If i put a castle creations sidewinder sct with a 23t pineon and a 90t spur and also a 5000mah 3s lipo how fast will it go?
According to the "R/C Vehicle Speed Calculator" this set up would get you about 38 mph. If you went with a 83T spur then you could get about 42 mph according to the "R/C Vehicle Speed Calculator". We have heard of people using a 35/76 gearing on 3S and getting about 62mph.
Does this car come with the remote control or 'radio system'? I can't determine from the product if it does. Can you run 2 of these side by side - does the remote control have different channels? If it doesn't include the remote which one would you recommend for the Traxxas Rustler XL-5? Thank you.
Yes these do come with the transmitter and receiver pre installed. Since they run on the 2.4 Ghz you can run multiples at the same time with out any issues. Once the receiver and transmitter are bound then each time you turn them on it will scan all frequencies and lock on an open one. All you need for this is 4 AA batteries for the transmitter and you are set.
