Slash 'Em Up: Here's What You Need to Know About the Traxxas Slash Race Truck
If you're into RC cars, chances are you've heard all of the stereotypes: they're only for kids, they look like cheap toys, they're slow, and more.
Nothing proves those stereotypes wrong more than the Traxxas Slash race truck. This bad boy is fast, mean, and truly just a miniature version of the most high-tech and innovative race cars out there.
Intrigued? If you're a gearhead, we'd be concerned if you weren't.
Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about each of the Traxxas Slash race truck models.
The Traxxas Brand
When you purchase a Traxxas brand car, you're guaranteeing yourself a high-quality and high-tech machine. Traxxas is the number one brand in Ready-to-Race RC trucks and Cars.
With some of the most cutting edge technology and features of any RC car or truck options out there, it's easy to see why beginner and expert RCers alike love the Traxxas Brand.
And that certainly holds true for the Traxxas Slash. The Slash has 6 specific model types each of which has special features and options to customize your racing experience depending on your preferences and your experience levels.
Enough chit-chatting. Let's get into the nitty-gritty details with each of the models.
Traxxas Slash 2WD Short Course Truck with DC Charger
This option is perhaps the most popular and the most general option of the Traxxas Slash options.
With a price in the middle of the range for these RCs, it comes with a number of features that make the Traxxas Slash so special: off-roading capabilities, intense power sliders, and a 900+ horsepower engine.
Let's dive a little deeper on those features. The tires have specially designed tread and are made with a unique rubber combination that allows the Slash to perform equally well on the road, concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass, and more. You name it, the Slash can tackle it.
The design of the Slash models also make it able to hurdle over obstacles like rocks, bumps, and jumps easily so you won't get stuck mid-race. The Traxxas Slash's suspension easily absorbs impact as well, meaning you can launch over huge gaps and continue speeding on the other side with ease.
This specific model also comes in 6 colors and allows you to set up 3 different driver profiles, each specifically designed for drivers of different skill and experience levels. You're able to limit the throttle for beginners in training mode, which is a huge plus.
Other features include:
- Easy one button set-up
- Classic racecar detailing
- XL-5 electronic speed control
- TQ radio system pre-installed
- DC charging system
- Motor cooling fan
Overall, this truck is fast, durable, and lives up to the name "ready-to-race".
Traxxas Slash Ford Raptor 1/10 2WD RTR with TQ 2.4GHz
If you want a truck that looks a little less like a "racecar" and more like a miniature version of your favorite truck, then this Slash Ford Raptor is for you. With a 3-color option body identical to the 2017 Raptor Ford F-150, it will really feel like you took your truck out of your garage and shrunk in.
This option also comes with all of the specs and features of the Slash 2WD Short Course Truck we just went over. It also is fully detailed with a nylon composite grill, Titan 12-Turn motor, hood vents, and side mirrors.
The body on this truck is also waterproof and extra durable, which will make your off-roading experience both more intense and more real.
Traxxas Slash 2WD Audio and ID VXL Truck
This is the most expensive option in the line-up because of a few very key additions: the TQi Traxxas link enabled Radio System, the Velineon VXL-3s brushless ESC, and the Traxxas Stability Management (TSM).
The TSM makes it agile and fast without giving up control. The Velineon VXL-3s ESC boosts the power of the already powerful Slash to get you up to a whopping 60 miles per hour!
Traxxas Slash 2WD Short Course On Board Audio and ID Technology RTR
This big plus with this model, that you do see on several of the others as well, is the onboard audio system. This adds audio and sounds to make your racing experience as realistic as possible.
Like the other Slash models, this model comes with the XL-5 power system, the Traxxas iD power cell battery, DC charger, specially designed tires, and Traxxas suspension/stabilizing technology.
This model also comes in 4 color options.
Traxxas Slash VXL 2WD Brushless 1/10 SCT
If you're looking for a higher-end model but you don't want to spend quite as much as you would for the Traxxas Slash 2WD Audio and ID VXL option, then this VXL SCT option is your best bet.
It's still expensive compared to the other models (costing right around 300 dollars), but that's because it comes with the Brushless power option (remember the 60 mph boost we talked about?) along with the speed and stability the Slash is known for.
Traxxas Slash 2WD 1/10 Short Course Truck 2.4GHz
Want a Traxxas Slash but also on a budget? This is the least expensive Slash option that still gives you all of the speed, control, and durability that makes the Slash so great.
While it doesn't have the huge boost that the VXL models have or the Ford design that the Raptor model does, this awesome machine is still complete with the suspension, TSM control, the Slash motor, and the 7-Cell NiMH Battery Pack that makes Traxxas trucks special.
Which Slash Model Is Calling Your Name?
